Thomson Airways has selected leather from Glasgow-based tanning company Muirhead for the cabin of its new Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet.

Appropriately, Muirhead’s home airport, Glasgow, hosted Thomson Airways’ inaugural flight of the Dreamliner on July 8, to Cancun, Mexico. The company will use the new aircraft to fly from London Gatwick, Manchester, East Midlands and Glasgow airports on long-haul routes to Sanford, Florida and Cancun. Further routes will commence in the winter to Phuket in Thailand, and from summer 2014, to Mauritius and Puerto Vallarta, also in Mexico.

Muirhead sales director, Archie Browning, said: “Thomson’s Dreamliner is a revolutionary aircraft and we have worked hard with the company to supply the full fleet, the most fuel-efficient of all commercial jetliners and one that features leather throughout. The Muirhead brand is a renowned high-quality supplier to the aviation industry, and is a key supplier to most of the Dreamliners delivered in the world to date. We are delighted to be working with Thomson, the first UK company to fly the Dreamliner, offering new levels of service, comfort and environmental efficiency to the travelling public.”

Jason Mahoney, director of engineering at Thomson Airways, added: “Our customers want to fly in both comfort and style. As the first UK airline to fly the Dreamliner it was vital that we chose the highest-quality leather throughout our cabin, creating stylish, durable and comfortable interiors ensuring that our customers enjoy the most relaxing in-flight experience possible.”
