The Federation of Indian Export Organisation (FIEO) has congratulated tanneries in Kanpur for a seventh year of leather export growth.

The rate is three times the national average and driven by the city’s focus on buffalo leather for upholstery, according to the Times of India.

"The leather that goes into the world market from Kanpur is unbeatable because of the finish and durability," said FIEO chairman, Rafeeque Ahmed. "The leather exported from here is of a very high quality."

Kanpur has around 350 tanneries and accounts for 40% of the country’s leather exports, according to the newspaper.
