European Committee for Standardisation names chairman for leather
The European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) has appointed Gustavo Adrian Defeo as chairman of its technical committee for leather, replacing Gustavo Gonzalez-Quijano, who has retired.
As chairman, Mr Defeo will lead the development, revision and publication of European Standards, governing the nomenclature and testing of leather and leather chemicals. The appointment runs for six years.
The committee coordinates the work of national standards bodies across CEN member countries, ensuring that European leather standards reflect scientific knowledge, industry practice and regulatory requirements.
Mr Defeo said: “It is both a privilege and a high responsibility to lead CEN TC 289 at this juncture. The leather sector stands at the intersection of tradition and innovation, and our standards must reflect that, upholding quality and safety while embracing the sustainable practices that will shape the industry’s future.”
He is also a fellow of the Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists (UK), awarded in recognition of sustained contributions to leather technology and research.
