COTANCE signs CheMI Manifesto for better framework
COTANCE, the leather industry’s main representative body in the European Union (EU), has joined 300,000 European companies and 14 other European industry associations as a signatory of the CheMI Manifesto, which advocate for improvements in the EU's chemical regulatory framework.
In the manifesto, signatories call on EU legislators to focus on:
• impact assessment: ensuring that the effects on downstream users of chemicals, especially manufacturing industries, are considered through comprehensive impact studies and setting sensible transition periods for regulatory adaptation
• fair competition: advocating for enhanced market surveillance to ensure all products entering the EU market comply with relevant chemical legislation, protecting our businesses and consumers
• boosting competitiveness: prioritising the competitiveness of European industries to strengthen our strategic resilience;
• and better regulation: supporting legislation that is evidence-based and effectively reduces unnecessary burdens, particularly for SMEs.
