Silvateam receive green carbon award

Italy-based leather chemicals group Silvateam has recently received a recognition award for its participation in Alps4GreenC, a project co-funded by the EU, aimed at implementing pathways for sustainable Green Carbon production in the Alpine Region.

The project is being carried out in collaboration with AIEL, the Italian Association of Agroforestry Energies.

Silvateam has been contributing to the project by supplying the leftovers of its extraction processes, wood biomass free of tannin, as raw materials to produce green energy and biochar. The goal of the project is to transform biomass residues into valuable biochar, which can serve as a vital soil conditioner and generate syngas, a versatile energy source rich in green hydrogen and pure CO2.

This new value chain is a significant step toward sustainability and represents a promising route to facilitate the transition to a circular and resource-efficient economy throughout the Alpine region and beyond.

The Alpine region's energy dependency increases vulnerability to climate change and loss of biodiversity. Biochar and green carbon can help reduce this dependency. Alps4GreenC aims to promote energy sufficiency and climate protection by facilitating transnational utilisation of biomass residues with biochar-based value chains and tech upgrades for biomass conversion.
