Confidence in Brazil that animal ID system can work for leather
Leather and footwear machinery developers’ association Abrameq is preparing to present proposals for using an existing cattle traceability system for leather in Brazil.
At the forthcoming CICB Sustainability Forum, which will take place on March 13 at the Fimec exhibition in Novo Hamburgo, Abrameq will share the results of a study into extending the cattle traceability system, which uses radio frequency identification, to leather.
In the build-up to the conference, Abrameq president, André da Rocha, said: “Traceability is a challenge, one that we need to address in collaboration with the leather industry. We will present a proposal for extending a system for animal traceability to leather.”
The system in question is one that came into effect in Brazil in 2016, governed by Brazilian national standard 15006.
