The councillor for Italy’s Marche region, Andrea Maria Antonini, visited 100 year-old Chienti CTC in Tolentino to learn how the tannery had used public and private money in its redevelopment.

He commented to local press how he was impressed that jobs had not only been preserved but upskilled, with investments in Industry 4.0.

CTC CEO Marco Luppa said: "The objective, focused on circular sustainability, is ambitious: recovery and reuse of wastewater, renewable energy to satisfy 70% of energy needs through a photovoltaic system and heat pumps; and technologies that use artificial intelligence to support workers.

"Our goal is to make CTC Tolentino a vanguard of the tanning sector, creating a sustainable technological centre for the production of leather.”

The councillor also visited the Poltrona Frau factory in Montegranaro.
