Puma announces commitment to LWG initiative

Sports brand Puma has officially announced their sign up to the Deforestation – free call to action for leather, the initiative jointly set up by Textile Exchange and the Leather Working Group.

Puma commented that apparel supply chains are associated with conversion of natural ecosystems, waterway pollution and soil degradation with “most of the negative impact on biodiversity coming from three stages in the value chain: raw material production, material preparation and processing and end of life.”

Puma Senior head of sustainability Veronique Rochet said: “To mitigate the risk of biodiversity loss due to our production processes, Puma addresses environmental pollution risk through our targets to increase the use of more sustainable materials and through our suppliers’ program on climate, chemicals, water, and air,”

“This deforestation-free commitment also directly supports one of Puma’s 10FOR25 sustainability targets dedicated to reducing our impact on biodiversity.” she added.

The announcement also said the company was committed to not using wood or wood derived fabrics originating from endangered or ancient forests.
