Florence show explores 102 years of Gucci history
Kering-owned Italian luxury house Gucci has opened ‘Gucci Visions’, a new exhibition which traces the brand’s 102-year heritage across eight themed rooms inside Gucci Garden, located within a fourteenth-century palazzo on Piazza della Signoria in Florence.
The space, inaugurated in 2018, is home to a gallery, a boutique and a restaurant led by three-Michelin-starred chef Massimo Bottura.
Highlights include a room entirely given over to displays of Gucci luggage and bags, such as a 1940s-era calfskin toiletries case, plus a dedicated ‘Icons’ room, where 400-plus versions of the leathergoods company’s Bamboo 1947, Horsebit 1955 and Jackie 1961 are on show. ‘Codes’, meanwhile, allows visitors the opportunity to explore key Gucci motifs and design codes, like its Interlocking G and Web stripe pattern.
According to the brand, the exhibition’s layout is meant to "echo how the 360° virtuosity of the house’s imagination rebounds across time, articulating an ever-evolving and enduring vision.”
Gucci announced the appointment of a new creative director earlier this year.
