Kering and Gucci to launch Circular Hub

Luxury group Kering is to collaborate with one of its leading leathergoods brands, Gucci, on a “cutting-edge” platform to support the circular transformation of the luxury and fashion sectors.

The Hub, which will cover the entire production cycle, is intended to be an open innovation platform for the design and manufacturing of circular products and the scouting of new solutions, through the creation of circular luxury products that maximise use of recycled materials and have been designed for improved durability, repairability and recyclability.

Its activities will focus mainly on research and development, logistics, industrial partnerships and value sharing and will involve the group's partner facilities, beginning with Gucci production sites and the brand's Italy-based raw material suppliers and finished product manufacturers, which together comprise more than 700 direct suppliers and 3,500 sub-suppliers. The hub’s activities will then be extended to additional Kering-owned brands and, eventually, opened up to the sector as a whole.

An initial estimate of the hub’s potential impact on Gucci’s leathergoods ecosystem suggests it could be possible to reduce as much as 60% of the greenhouse gas emissions currently generated during production waste management.
