Cotance’s Traceability Cluster will increase trust in industry, says Oeko-Tex

Standards body Oeko-Tex has officially added its signature to the Cotance initiative on traceability schemes’ alignment.

Cotance – the tanning industry’s representative body in Europe - launched the initiative in September 2022 to define the minimum essential elements of traceability and evidence of verification.

The terms of reference were signed at the Lineapelle leather fair in Milan by the Sustainable Leather Foundation, the Leather Working Group and certification body ICEC.

Carolin Franitza, stakeholder manager at Oeko-Tex, said: “Traceability is essential for making responsible decisions. We believe that cooperation is an important factor in achieving that goal.

“The Leather Traceability Cluster is a great opportunity to bring more trust into our industry.”

Gustavo Gonzalez-Quijano, secretary general of Cotance, added: “I very much appreciate the support and collaboration that we have found in Oeko-Tex from the very beginning of the alignment exercise. Its experience in textiles and leather certification schemes and its extensive networks add tremendous value to the Leather Traceability Cluster. I look forward to advancing fast towards our common goals.”
