An experienced executive from the world of fast moving consumer goods, Leena Nair, has been appointed as the new chief executive of Chanel.

Ms Nair has spent 30 years at Unilever, most recently as its chief human resources officer. She will take up her new role at Chanel in January. She will be based in London.

Unilever chief executive, Alan Jope, said Ms Nair had made “an outstanding contribution” to the consumer products group over the last three decades.

He said of the new Chanel chief executive: “She has been a driving force on our equity, diversity and inclusion agenda, on the transformation of our leadership development, and on our preparedness for the future of work. She has played a critical role in building our purpose-led, future-fit organisation.”
