PFMA seeks help to push Lahore footwear project forward

The Pakistan Footwear Manufacturers’ Association (PFMA) is working with the authorities there to make it easy for Italian footwear machinery manufacturers to ship new technology to help the association set up a new footwear technology centre.

PFMA said the Italian government had agreed to provide machinery free of charge to set up a new Italy-Pakistan Footwear Technology Centre in Lahore, but the project is on hold because of a dispute with the authorities in Pakistan over import duty.

Imran Malik, chairman of PFMA, met recently with Muhammad Sarwar, the governor of the province of Punjab, of which Lahore is the capital, to request help in moving the project forward.
