Diamond accreditation for JBS Couros tannery

04/08/2021

A tannery run by JBS Couros in Marabá in the north-eastern state of Pará is the first wet blue facility in Brazil to secure the diamond award under the country’s Leather Certification of Sustainability (CSCB) programme.

There are four levels of CSCB certification that tanners can achieve, depending on how many the criteria they fulfil across 160 audit categories. Provided they meet at least 50% of the indicators, they can earn bronze certification. Silver is for those meeting 75% and gold for those meeting 90%. To achieve diamond certification, the score has to be 100%.

The Marabá plant, the first JBS Couros plant to achieve CSCB accreditation, attained a gold award in 2019. On being reaudited recently, it managed to score 100%.
