Ecco chosen for ‘tech leather’ in Porsche-designed laptop

Leather from Danish tannery and footwear group Ecco has been chosen for the cover of an Acer laptop designed by Porsche Design.

The Porsche Design Acer Travelpack RS is made from Ecco’s PALERMO XA Leather, which it describes as “a durable material that is pleasant to the touch and glistens with a subtle shine”.

Jerry Kao, Co-COO of Acer, said: "The design brings together Acer's expertise in technology and Porsche Design's design prowess, resulting in a refined product that not only has timeless aesthetics, but also exceptional performance."

Porsche Design was founded in 1972 by Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the designer of the Porsche 911 sportscar.

The Leather Pipeline has recently reported on the rising popularity of leather in the technology accessories sector. “What used to be a very cheap sector, mainly made by all kinds of leather trim, has become something of a status symbol with brands choosing quality material,” said the author.
