Salvatore Ferragamo AW20 a “paean to all things leather”
Leather features prominently in the Salvatore Ferragamo AW20 collection, which just debuted at Milan’s fashion week.

According to Salvatore Ferragamo, the brand’s creative director Paul Andrew (who was appointed to the role in February 2019) was exploring the question of what masculinity looks like in 2020. Mr Andrew began with six male stereotypes, such as businessman, biker and surfer, then applied a non-conformist attitude.

“Retaining the core aesthetic of the uniform,” said the brand, “he applies traditional Ferragamo artisanship to subvert the once-rigid assumptions enforced, using luxuriously tactile and fluid materials that blend together six masculine categories.”

The result was what GQ called “an ultra-modern paean to all things leather”, as the magazine highlighted the collection’s nappa leather trousers, a black leather t-shirt paired with black leather trousers, and a hooded leather one-piece.

"I wanted to create clothes and accessories for change in a very masculine context,” said Mr Andrew. “A man today is not obliged to assume a single, set role: he can be a multitude, and he can change his worn identity any time he wishes. That’s a freedom we want to explore in the 2020s.”
