Difficult first half for automotive manufacturers
The majority of automotive manufacturers saw a decline in the number of vehicles they delivered during the first half of 2019, the data from their respective financial reports for the period shows.

As it did in 2018, German group Volkswagen led the way, delivering 5.4 million cars in the first six months of this year. This was a decline of 2.8% compared to the same period of 2018.

Of the top five in the list, only Japan-based Toyota saw a year-on-year increase in deliveries, with growth of 1.3% seeing it deliver a total of 4.6 million vehicles.

Following after Volkswagen and Toyota were General Motors (3.8 million units), Ford (2.8 million) and Nissan (2.7 million). All three values were declines compared to the first half of 2018.

The only other automotive manufacturers to see their deliveries increase were Honda (+3.2%) and BMW (+0.8%).

Of those to suffer declines, the most severe were Fiat Chrysler (-12.4%) and PSA (-12.8%).
