Recycled leather features in Timberland's concepts project

Unlike Nike’s Flyleather, the tannery scraps are not held together or coated with plastic, and the company is testing whether it will prove strong enough for its main collections.
In the meantime it has included the material in Construct:10061 – a pilot design project based in its Dominican factory where designers from around the world are paired with footwear specialists and encouraged to ‘think outside the box’.
Launched in September 2018, every six months a new team of designers travel to the factory to create as many iterations of the boot as they can.
The finished products are uploaded to Instagram, where followers can ‘like’ their favourites.
“My interest is about local factories, and making more to order,” said Christopher Raeburn, Timberland’s creative director.
