Eurofins BLC prepares to implement DNA tracking on a commercial scale
01/05/2019
This project was launched in 2016, when the two parties signed a research agreement to develop the traceability platform. In May 2018, they claimed success for the project, saying it had scope to be implemented across the entire leather supply chain. They are now working together to do so on a commercial scale.
The system works through the application of artificial DNA markers at important stages of the supply chain. They are said to be capable of surviving the conditions that are encountered during the tanning process.
Eurofins BLC has urged potential commercial partners, including brands, retailers and leather manufacturers, who are keen to implement DNA tracking to make contact.
An in-depth report about this project will be published in the April/May 2019 edition of World Leather magazine, which will be available next week.
