Argentinian footwear workers union laments job losses

The general secretary of the trade union for workers in Argentina’s footwear industry, Agustín Amicone, has said 9,000 jobs have been lost in this sector since 2015.

In an interview with local media, he said around 3,000 of these jobs have disappeared in the past 12 months, aggravating an already dire situation.

Among the shoe companies to have closed factories in the country in the last 12 months is casual footwear manufacturer Alpargatas, which in September shut down facilities in Catamarca and Santa Rosa. It also reduced its workforce at a third site by 500 people.
