Tannery and footwear group Ecco achieved record net sales of more than €1.3 billion in 2018, an increase of 1% compared to the previous year.

Its profit before tax on this turnover was €201 million, compared to €184 million in 2017. The company said this was the highest profit in its 55-year history.

Direct-to-consumer sales showed good growth, with a 10% increase in retail sales and a 36% increase in online sales. Ecco’s performance was especially strong in North America, where revenue grew by 13%, and Asia, were revenue was up 11% year-on-year.

Discussing these results, ECOO CEO Steen Borgholm said: “It is very satisfactory for the employees to see all their hard work and enthusiasm rewarded with such a good result; particularly when taking into account that the retail industry is going through a disruptive period and is facing many challenges.”

He added that the company would continue to invest in the development of new innovations in both its shoe and leather divisions.
