Lectra conference addresses the future of automotive interiors
07/03/2019
Opening the event, Lectra’s automotive marketing director, Marc Douay, said the conference is a global event, explaining that the delegates in attendance were drawn from 15 countries. He added that it is an opportunity to bring the automotive community together and to encourage exchange of ideas between industry experts.
This year, Lectra has decided to expand the scope of the event to include all aspects of vehicle interiors, rather than just focusing on leather. This has seen speakers invited to talk specifically about fabrics and other components such as airbags.
A number of speakers have based their presentations on how the development of autonomous and electronic vehicles will affect how car interiors are designed. The focus of the first morning was on the impact of automotive industry megatrends.
The afternoon session was dedicated exclusively to leather, with speakers from Lectra discussing the host company’s work in this sector. It also took the opportunity to present a new version of its Versalis automated leather cutting technology. This was the first chance for those from the industry to see the 2019 iteration in action.
At the end of his welcoming address, Mr Douay introduced Olivier Nold, Lectra’s new vice president of business development for the automotive and furniture sectors. He replaces Javier Garcia, who has been promoted and now leads the company’s subsidiary in the Asia-Pacific region. This is one of Lectra’s four regional subsidiaries, a structure it unveiled in January.
