Stahl expands Neo portfolio to include wet-end products

05/03/2019
Leather chemicals group Stahl is extending its Stahl Neo range of leather finishing products to include products for wet-end processes. It will call the extended range Stahl Neo 2.0.

This move means Stahl can now offer a complete portfolio of leather processing products that are compliant with the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) manufacturing restricted substances list (MRSL).

On announcing the development, chief executive, Huub van Beijeren, commented: “We take reducing restricted substances in our product portfolio very seriously and we are working on innovations to improve our products on a daily basis. The introduction of Stahl Neo 2.0 is fully in line with our ambition to achieve a more transparent and sustainable supply chain.”

Beyond the MRSL that ZDHC has published, Stahl’s updated range is also free from substances such as formaldehyde, toluene, xylene, DMF and PFC, which do not feature on the list. Global technical service manager for the leather business, Remy Vial, said at the time of the launch that the products would, therefore, help tanners meet compliance requirements for REACH Annex XIV of eliminating substances of very high concern by 2020. He added that the Stahl products can be easily adapted to existing formulations and applications.

The Stahl Neo 2.0 portfolio already consists of more than 1,100 products. The company will offer more information about this development at the APLF exhibition in Hong Kong from March 13-15.
