Tuscany’s Genuine Italian Vegetable Tanned Leather Consortium (Il Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale) has once again invited isitors to the Lineapelle exhibition in Milan (February 20-22) to visits its stand in Hall 15 during the event to help choose a winner in its student design competition.

Ten students from design schools in Asia, North America and Europe are finalists this time for the competition that the Consorzio calls ‘Craft The Leather’.

Three students from the US, two from Japan, two from the UK and one each from China, Spain and Sweden travelled to Tuscany with one of their teachers in May 2018 to visit tanneries and work with specially appointed tutor Diane Becker to gain first-hand experience and knowledge of vegetable-tanned leather.

They then spent the rest of 2018 designing and producing their entries for the competition and all ten pieces will be on show at the Consorzio’s stand at Lineapelle. The public vote will help determine the winner, as will the assessments of a specially appointed panel of judges.
