Gucci looks to the future with leathergoods training programme

18/12/2018
Kering-owned luxury brand Gucci is launching a new training programme in an effort to pass down the skills and know-how of its artisans to the next generation of craftspeople.

The programme, which it calls ‘École de l’Amour’ (or ‘School of Love’), comprises three different courses. They will be delivered by Gucci artisans and managers, as well as retired employees.

The first course, known as Craftsmanship School, is a six-month programme dedicated to leathergoods design and production. It will be held at Gucci’s ArtLab development hub, which the brand opened at the start of 2018.

Factory School is a bimonthly course that aims to develop artisans that are skilled in a specific part of the leathergoods manufacturing process. A total of 60 students are already enrolled in this programme.

Both courses are aimed at school graduates and unemployed people between the ages of 18 and 26.
A third course, which Gucci calls Technical Academy, is for the brand’s existing employees. It will train them on new skills according to the company’s needs.

Announcing the ‘École de l’Amour’ programme, Gucci president and CEO Marco Bizzarri said: “The heritage of Gucci is made up of people and their knowledge. Training is the most powerful method and tool we have to enhance our people and our products.”
