The hub, which Gucci calls ArtLab, has been active since the start of 2018. It has a workforce of 800 people and will operate as a centre for product development and in-house prototyping for leathergoods, new materials, metal hardware and packaging.
Marco Bizzarri, president and CEO of Gucci, said of the new facility: "It is a testament to our belief in creativity, artisanal craftsmanship, innovation and technology, and sustainability, and our bond with our territory.”
The ArtLab is located near to Casellina, just outside Florence, which was home to the Italian fashion house’s former headquarters.
"Gucci ArtLab is the perfect expression of the corporate culture that we have been building and nurturing within the company. It is the tangible expression of a place to learn skills and techniques, a workshop to generate ideas, and ideas are the lifeblood of culture,” Mr Bizzarri added.
