Tyson finalises Keystone acquisition

Packer and leather manufacturer Tyson Foods has completed the acquisition of food services company Keystone Foods. It has bought the company from Brazilian meatpacker Marfrig.

Tyson said the acquisition of Keystone, a supplier of chicken, beef, fish and pork to leading quick-service restaurant chains and convenience stores, aligns with its domestic and international growth strategy.

The deal includes eight processing plants and three innovation centres across China, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and Australia. Tyson is also acquiring an innovation centre and six processing plants in the US.

The transaction does not include a beef patty processing plant in Ohio. This facility, with an annual capacity of 91,000 tonnes, will be added to the portfolio of National Beef, which Marfrig acquired in June. It means the Brazilian group will shift its focus exclusively to beef.
