Nigerian leathergoods students to showcase their products

10/07/2018
The Nigerian Exports Promotion Council (NEPC) has said it plans to exhibit the leather products made by graduates of a training programme it has put in place in the state of Oyo.

This announcement was made at the graduation ceremony for the third intake of students to complete the intensive leather-making course.

Speaking at the ceremony, the NEPC’s regional coordinator for the South-West, Babatunde Faleke, said exhibiting the students’ products would give them important exposure to the local market. He added that it would also show local people that authentic and quality leather products are being made in Nigeria.

According to Mr Faleke, 75 students have so far gone through the training programme. NEPC will organise a three-day exhibition in August to showcase products made by 50 of them.

The opening speaker at the graduation ceremony was Femi Olayebi, who helped set up the programme and who is also responsible for organising the Lagos Leather Fair, which had its second edition in June 2018. She said that with help from the local state government the training programme would be relocated to a larger space, allowing it to accommodate a higher number of students.
