Wet blue exports from Brazil are on the rise

15/12/2017
Brazilian tanning industry body CICB has reported a substantial increase in exports of wet blue in the first 11 months of this year, coupled with a decrease in shipments of finished leather. The changes refer both to value and to volume.

In the January-November period in 2017, Brazilian tanners and packers exported wet blue worth more than $540 million, with a volume calculated by CICB at 63.2 million square-metres. These figures represent an increase compared to the same months in 2016 of 17.2% in value and of 39.3% in volume.

In contrast, the figures for finished leather exports show a decline of 10.6% in value and of 8.1% in volume. Tanners exported 72.2 million square-metres of finished leather over the period, bringing in export revenues of just under $1 billion.
