UK tannery eyes modernisation

06/09/2017
UK-based sheepskin tannery Devonia has submitted plans to modernise its site in Buckfastleigh, Devon.

Owners wish to knock down the stone raw skin store and replace it with a steel-framed building.

The request to Dartmoor National Park Authority said: “The existing building is in very poor condition and restricts access to other buildings on the site.”

Devonia went into administration in 2013 but was bought by Eastern Counties Leather, a Cambridgeshire-based tannery.

Devonia has been processing sheepskin at the site for more than 200 years.
