Jobs saved at UK sheepskin tannery

Jobs at a UK-based sheepskin tannery have been saved after its owner went into administration last week.

Devonia Products has been bought by Eastern Counties Leather, a Cambridgeshire-based tannery which manufactures coats, gloves, footwear, sheepskin rugs and chamois leathers.

Devonia was previously owned by Axminster Carpets, which is rumoured to be in the sights of private equity firm Carlyle.

Devonia is based in Devon, employs 20 people and has been processing British sheepskins on the site for 200 years.
