Lear to build facility near GM assembly plant

The company said the facility will provide seats on “a just-in-time basis” for future vehicle production at the assembly plant that General Motors (GM) operates in Flint.
Lear’s president of seating operations, Ray Scott, said this expansion of the company’s capacity reflects the “positive outlook” Lear has for its business.
According to Lear, GM has found that having suppliers of large components, such as seats, near to its assembly plants results in significant savings. This is for a number of reasons, including reduced transportation costs and better communication.
Lear will begin construction of the state-of-the-art facility in Autumn, with completion scheduled for early 2018. It is expected to create around 600 jobs when the plant reaches full capacity.
