Volkswagen inaugurates production plant in Algeria
The Volkswagen Group and its local partner SOVAC have inaugurated a new car factory at Relizane in Algeria. The new production facility is 280 kilometres south-west of Algiers and will make vehicles for the group’s Volkswagen, Seat and Skoda brands. Initial production capacity is 200 vehicles per day.

At an inauguration ceremony on July 27, Volkswagen chief executive, Dr Herbert Diess, said: “The African continent offers considerable growth opportunities for the group. We are bringing leading modern technology to Africa.”

Seat pointed out that this new project will represent the first time its cars will be made outside Europe.
