"My goal is to improve the compliance programme by making it a model for the market with full internal and external controls which I am confident will ensure a lasting successful company that will evolve greatly in building trust and reputation with stakeholders and, in particular, with employees, the market and society," said Mr Proença.
The board has also appointed legal firm White & Case to oversee the compliance programme.
JBS chairman Tarek Farahat said: "These are just the first steps but they are also fundamental to our goal of raising JBS's governance level and making it a global governance benchmark."
This week, Ranchers-Cattlemen Action Legal Fund, United Stockgrowers of America (R-CALF USA) requested “a full investigation and strict antitrust enforcement action in the wake of the unfolding corruption charges against JBS”.
