Tanning group PrimeAsia has promoted Sarah Swenson to the newly created position of chief sustainability officer. An environmental engineer, Ms Swenson joined the company in 2011 and has worked since then as its environmental manager.

She has promoted environmental stewardship, sustainability, resource management, efficiency, commitment to natural resources and clean waste stream management at PrimeAsia’s two tanneries in Vietnam and China. She has also represented PrimeAsia and taken leadership roles on globa leather industry bodies, including multistakeholder organisation the Leather Working Group.

“She integrates these values into every aspect of her vision of an environment that serves and sustains the larger communities in which we, our customers and suppliers operate,” the company said on announcing her promotion.

A specialist in producing high-quality lifestyle and sports-inspired leathers for global footwear, apparel and leathergoods brands, PrimeAsia employs more than 3,000 people at its manufacturing sites in China and Vietnam.  These manufacturing sites are supported by marketing and service teams in the US, the UK and throughout Asia.

PrimeAsia Vietnam won the regional Tannery of the Year award for Asia excluding China in 2010. PrimeAsia China won the global Tannery of the Year awards, as well as the award in its own region, in 2013.
