Ireland agrees beef deal with Saudi Arabia

28/02/2017
Irish companies will have enhanced access to Saudi Arabia’s beef market after a deal was agreed during an agri-food trade mission to the region.

They will now be able to export processed, cooked, minced and bone-in-beef to Saudi Arabia.

The deal comes following high level discussions between Ireland’s agriculture minister Michael Creed and Dr Hisham Saad Aljadhey, executive vice president of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA). This organisation is responsible for market access matters in Saudi Arabia.

Mr Creed said the agreement was evidence of the high regard in which Irish beef is held in Saudi Arabia. He added that it is the result of intensive work by his department, the Irish Embassy in Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh and the Irish beef industry.
