The collection included nine handbags, one for each decade since the brand was founded, with each one designed to celebrate the fashion trends of a specific decade.
For the 1920s, the decade in which the brand was founded, Furla chose to represent the Charlestone era, with a flap encrusted with stones.
Music was prominent throughout the range, with the 1960s design mimicking the layout of a vinyl LP and featuring a volume knob. The handbag dedicated to the 1980s took its inspiration from punk and the one celebrating the 1990s celebrated hip hop and techno music.
The final piece in the collection, which represented the 2000s, Furla said it focused on technology and the “dawn of a new millennium”. It featured a silver laminate lined with folding plates to create a robotic face.
Furla displayed the handbags on the streets of Milan during the city’s fashion week (February 22-28). It saw a parade of models walk by famous Milan landmarks, including the Duomo di Milano and the Galleria Vittoria Emanuele II. Each one carried a 90th anniversary Metropolis handbag.
