Defra and the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) recently hosted a delegation of Chinese officials at a beef farm and abattoir in the county of Surrey. They demonstrated to the officials the high levels of animal welfare and disease control measures in place. It also organised a meeting with the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA).
UK Environment Secretary Andrea Leadsom has also paid a visit to China to discuss increased trade opportunities for UK food and drink with businesses and government ministers.
“This visit from the Chinese delegation was a significant step towards opening the door for our world-class beef into this hugely lucrative market,” she said of the visit by Chinese officials to the UK.
