Luxury bags are a sound investment

In a recent article explaining how luxury leather bags can be an attractive investment, the Financial Times calculated that the Chanel 2.55 Medium Classic Flap Bag has risen in value by more than 230% in the last ten years or so.

The newspaper went on to explain that, because it can take up to six years on a waiting list before being able to buy some luxury handbags new (with the Birkin bag from Hermès perhaps the most obvious example), they are attractive items on specialist auction lists. This means they don’t just retain their value, but they can grow in value.

Between 2014 and 2016, the article calculated that a Birkin bag from the 1990s increased in value by about 30%.
