Brazilian footwear looks to continue growth in China

A delegation of Brazilian footwear companies, led by footwear association Abicalçados and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil), is to visit China with a view to increasing shoe exports to the country.

The trade mission to Shanghai will take place between 10 and 13 October and will include participation in the China International Fashion Fair (CHIC). Brazilian footwear companies have been visiting China since 2010 to assess export opportunities in the country.

According to Abicalçados, these trade mission have been very successful with exports of Brazilian footwear to China rising 80% from $2.4 million in 2009 to $4.4 million in 2015.

“China is a difficult market to access because of the competition from big international brands but, little by little, Brazilian products are getting the recognition they deserve,” said Abicalçados analyst, Ruísa Scheffel.
