French town hosts fourth edition of event celebrating leather

04/10/2016
Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche, a town in the Haute-Vienne region of France, has hosted the fourth edition of ‘Portes du Cuir’ (Gateway to Leather), an event dedicated to leather craftsmanship.

It has previously been held in Nontron, Saint-Junien and Montbron, all of which have rich pedigree in leather and leathergoods production.

The 2016 ‘Portes du Cuir’ exhibition (September 30-October 2) saw the attendance of farmers, tanners, artisans, industry figures, trade unions and representatives from training organisations.

Around sixty exhibitors were present and six introductory workshops were held; those taking part could take their work home with them. There were also a further fifteen live demonstrations, where visitors, who as in previous years numbered in the thousands, could see tanners, leather artisans and shoemakers in action.
