Coats says corrosion-resistant zips will improve leathergoods’ durability

Thread and zip maker Coats has launched what it describes as its most advanced range of corrosion resistant zips, targeted at the leathergoods industry.

The UK-based company said the metal zips used in leathergoods, clothing and footwear are prone to oxidisation and corrosion from exposure to the moisture in air and also through contact with chemicals contained in all leather following the tanning process it goes through.

It has developed a formula that makes the zip’s teeth and slider resistant to corrosion while specially engineered chemical and mechanical properties enhance the appearance and durability of the zips.

Rajiv Sharma, CEO of the industrial division at Coats, said: “The chemical and mechanical process we have developed means we are able to help our customers improve the durability of their products.”
