Indonesia to admit Australian feeder cattle, but supply is tight

The government of Indonesia has granted permits for 200,000 feeder cattle to be imported from Australia in the first four months of this year.

One Queensland-based livestock agent, Bram Pollock, told Australian broadcaster ABC that the development is good news for the livestock industry there, but “supply is very tight”.

He said he thinks it will be difficult to find feeder cattle of the weight required (between 260 and 350 kilos) in his region owing to drought, but that livestock may be available in the Northern Territory to help meet Indonesia’s demand “until Queensland cattle catch up”.
