Speaking to media in Brazil, Mr Camardelli said the two highlights this year have been the opening up to exports of Brazilian beef of the markets in China and the US. Shipments to China began, after years of negotiaion, at the end of June 2015 and in only five months chalked up shipments of more than 80,000 tonnes and export revenues of $400 million.
As a result of a relaxation in restrictions in the US, packer firms are now able to export fresh beef from 14 Brazilian states to the US.
In the first 11 months of 2015, Brazil exported 1.3 million tonnes of beef and brought in export revenues of $5.4 billion. These figures represent declines of 10% in volume and 17% in value year on year, but with important large markets now buying beef from Brazil, ABIEC said it was looking forward to next year with confidence.
