10/11/2015
Between January and August this year, official figures from the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) show that Chinese footwear manufacturers exported 570.6 million pairs of shoes with leather uppers, bringing in export revenues of $8.3 billion.
These figures represent a year-on-year decline of 11.3% in volume and of 9% in value and show an average price per pair of $14.54 (slightly up on the average price per pair for the same period in 2014, $14.06).
In terms of imports over the same period, China brought in almost 24 million pairs of leather shoes, with a value of $953.8 million, CLIA said. This shows an increase in volume of 22% and an increase in value of 6% compared to the first eight months of last year.
Although the overall import figures for the first eight months of 2015 show growth, they indicate an average price per pair of $39.79, which is down from the average price per pair Chinese importers were paying overseas footwear producers in the same period in 2014, $45.64.
