Tannery of the Year: Americas finalists named
The fifth Tannery of the Year programme continues and World Leather magazine has announced the names of two tanneries from the Americas that are finalists this time around. The initiative began in 2009 and aims to highlight and make public the best examples in the global leather industry of tanneries that look after the environment well, take good care of their employees, work closely and fairly with local and national authorities, are economically sound, committed to innovation and quality, and who have established strong partnerships with customers and suppliers.

A group of industry experts nominates tanneries in each of five global territories for their performance against the Tannery of the Year corporate social responsibility criteria.

From a total of 12 candidate tanneries for the Americas this time, two have emerged as finalists for the fifth programme. We can reveal that the two finalist tanneries are, in alphabetical order:

- Couro do Norte, Belém, Brazil, and
- Wickett & Craig of America, US.

In-depth reports on the work of both tanneries appear in the August-September 2015 issue of World Leather and both will go forward to take part in the final, which will be in Hong Kong in March 2016 at the time of the APLF exhibition.

We congratulate Wickett & Craig and Couro do Norte for their success so far and wish them good luck as the competition continues.

After the Americas, the attention of Tannery of the Year will turn to China, Africa and Asia excluding China.

World Leather is grateful for the important backing Tannery of the Year has from sponsors Buckman and the support of the International Council of Tanners, the International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, as well as from the APLF exhibition.
