26 Brazilian abattoirs to receive all-clear on China exports

Brazil’s agriculture minister, Kátia Abreu, has said 26 beef packing plants there should have clearance to begin exporting beef to China by the end of June. Ms Abreu made the announcement immediately after a meeting in mid-May with senior officials from China.

China imposed a ban on imports of beef from Brazil after confirmation of a case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in the state of Paraná in 2012.

Ms Abreu said she had handed over extensive documentation to her Chinese counterparts and said she was confident nine meat plants would receive clearance to ship meat to China almost immediately, with clearance for the other 17 following before the end of June.
