Rolls-Royce unveils name of new model
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars today announced that a new model it is preparing to launch will be called Dawn. It described the car as “an exciting and sensuous drophead” at an unveiling event for dealers in Los Angeles on May 12.

It will launch during the first quarter of 2016.

At the event, chief executive, Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes, said the Rolls-Royce Dawn is “a beautiful new open-top motor car with a name that suggests the fresh opportunities that every new day holds”.

Rolls-Royce used the name Dawn at the start of the 1950s, but only ever applied it to 28 special-edition drophead vehicles between 1950 and 1954 (see image). At a time when the company began to bring to market models with factory-built bodies, it used the name Dawn for coach-built cars for individual customers, ensuring “uniqueness and rarity”.
