The Indian tannery where 10 workers died last month after a sludge tank burst over them while they were sleeping has been ordered to pay Rs75 lakh ($120,000) compensation, reported the Times of India.

Ranipet Sidco has placed the money in a bank account after the ruling by the National Green Tribunal, a government body set up to handle environmental disputes.

The report stated that the government would receive Rs50 lakh for the pollution, while the workers’ families would be sharing Rs25 lakh ($40,000) between them, which would work out at $4,000 each.
