Lear Corporation confirmed in August 2014 that the acquisition was going ahead and has said it expects to complete the deal during the first quarter of 2015. In a presentation at the 2015 Deutsche Bank Global Auto Industry Conference in Detroit on January 13, Lear spoke extensively about Eagle Ottawa and about the attraction of leather in cars in general.
In the presentation, Lear described the company as “an industry expert, with the ability to differentiate its products for the end consumer, build strong partnerships with automotive manufacturers and develop proprietary designs and co-branded leather”. It said Eagle Ottawa is “renowned for superior quality, product innovation and craftsmanship”.
In more general terms, Lear Corporation said interior comfort and craftsmanship are increasingly cited as leading factors in a consumer’s vehicle selection process. “Consumers are willing to pay for high quality, value-added products,” it said.
Quoting market research company JD Power, Lear Corporation went on to list the top ten reasons why car buyers choose a specific vehicle model. According to Lear, leather upholstery contributes to four of the ten: durability, interior comfort, quality of workmanship and positive image.
